According to UNESCO calculations, in the world, 132 million girls aged between 6 and 17 are not in school, and more than 15 million girls of primary school age will never enter a classroom in their lives. At least half of those girls live in sub-Saharan Africa. That’s why we've partnered with the global non-governmental organization CAMFED to support girls across this region to go to school, learn, thrive and lead.
Unfortunately, even now, education is not accessible to everyone. In numerous countries worldwide, girls are excluded from it without hesitation.
For example, when families find themselves without enough money for food, transportation, school expenses, uniforms, and necessities, including sanitary products, girls are the first children in the household to leave school. They are the ones who are let down by the system first, facing the perils of early marriage, early pregnancy, and abuse.
Without the opportunity to learn and freely express themselves, each year, the potential of millions of girls around the world is wasted forever. Therefore, we believe that investing in education for young and talented women not only promotes gender equality but is also a direct way of improving the health and prosperity of communities, cities, nations, and eventually the whole world.
CAMFED, or “Campaign for Female Education,” is an international non-governmental organization based in Cambridge, United Kingdom, that aims to revolutionize how girls’ education is addressed in Africa. CAMFED has devised a virtuous operational model that significantly increases girls’ possibilities of becoming independent and influential women by investing in education. It has also created a professional network of more than 180,000 women leaders already supported by the organization, who assist the new generations to reach their full potential. As a strong changing force, CAMFED is multiplying year by year the number of girls accessing education in Africa and protecting their journey towards fulfilled lives, by helping them become the best version of themselves.
CAMFED has already supported more than 4.8 million girls to go to school across Ghana, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. By supporting CAMFED, we aim to add momentum to their ambitious goals of supporting another 5 million girls to attend and thrive in school by 2025. Some of CAMFED’s famous backers include Julia Gillard (former prime minister of Australia), Roger Federer, Emma Watson, Prince Harry, among others.
